Perle Calls for Invasion of Iran
During a debate between Richard Perle and Jane Harman (D-Calf) the following was reported:
Unless I am reading this incorrectly, he is calling for US military action in Iran.
Iran has three times the population of Iraq. Its people are far more united than the people of Iraq. In fact, Iraq had an oppressed majority that we could turn to to help run the country, so Iraq presented an ideal case. Nonetheless, we continue to have problems in Iraq despite these advantages.
Furthermore, the US currently has many more military obligations than when we first entered Iraq.
An invasion of Iran would be a military disaster.

But after half an hour of this, Harman could not keep up. Perle provoked cheers from the crowd when he favored a military raid on Iran, saying that "if Iran is on the verge of a nuclear weapon, I think we will have no choice but to take decisive action." When Harman said the "best short-term option" is the U.N. Security Council, the crowd reacted with boos.

If (former UN weapons inspector in Iraq) Scott Ritter's claim that it has been decided already to bomb Iran in June is correct, what will be Iran's reaction? So far, Iran has kept out of both Iraq and Afghanistan. If bombed might it not decide to retaliate by intervening there? It would certainly cause havock - the "coalitian" forces in both countries haven't even managed to curb the "insurgents" - what would happen if they were confronted by large regular Iranian forces as well? Perhaps it is fear of this eventuality that is the real reason for the planned transfer of 5000 UK troops from Iraq to Afghanistan...
It will be interesting to see how things play out if the US bombs Iran.
Truth is, Iran won't be able to do much at an official level, but we won't know for some time how (in)effective the bombing was.
Also, will it create a new series of terror attacks on the US and its interests?
Will other countries impose economic santions against the US? Will they stop lending us money?

If US touches Iran, it will break the western alliance. With all the questions about Iraq, there will be fighting in the streets (in Europe) if the governments insist on supporting the US on Iran. Therefore, the US will try to push Israel to do the dirty job (bombing), while pushing Europe into threatening to apply drastic economic sanctions if Iran reacts against Israel. Russia can't be pushed, but Bush already made sure that they won't care (by giving some kind of unknown incentive). This strategy only works if:
1. Iran's rationality is limited to the short term (not likely, hell, they have nuclear power, which is more than I can say about my own country...).
2. Europe plays along (not sure, there is currently a backlash here against "stupid ideas").
I agree with Perle that Iran should be next on the terrorist regime hit list. When the Iraq operation was being discussed the American left claimed Iran was a more legitimate target. Now that this may come to pass, the left rears its true, socialist, pacifist ways and forgets. Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia are ALL legitimate targets for intense and unforgiving military action; perhaps annihilating a Muslim oil state would allow the left to better pursue an alternative fuel society.

I do not believe the photographers would put this material on the net. And yet, somehow, this information supposedly made it into the hands of the resistance. Question arises, how did this material get into the hands of the folks that supposedly made the slide presentation?
The possibilities include: This is a 'black' psychological effort, to enflame Americans, placing the blame for this production on the 'resistance'.
Or, the 'resistance' is so sophisticated they can acquire, edit and produce such a presentation, with music, in the midst of a shooting war and distribute the finished product to those who have spread it around the globe. In either event, it shows what the US media is NOT showing the families and friends of the boyz and girlz they are sending off to war.
