He is not Hiding the Ball

At least in this case Bush is telling you exactly why he plans to take us into war with Iran.

US President George W. Bush said he hoped to resolve the nuclear dispute with Iran with diplomacy, but warned Tehran he would "use military might" if necessary to defend Israel.

"The threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel. That's a threat, a serious threat. It's a threat to world peace," the US president said after a speech defending the war in Iraq.

"I made it clear, and I'll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally Israel," said Bush, who was apparently referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for the destruction of Israel.

The question is, why does Israel need the US to defend her? Israel has decisively defeated her Arab neighbors in a long series of conflicts. And Iran is a long way away, with no way to launch a conventional attack. What about a nuclear attack? Israel has over 200 (maybe as many as 400) nuclear warheads, according to Mordechi Vanunu, a former Israeli nuclear worker (and Jewish convert to Christianity), who has been relentlessly persecuted by the Israeli government. http://www.vanunu.freeserve.co.uk/
IF the Iranians can develop a nuclear weapon, IF they can develop a means of delivery, IF the damned thing even works and strikes Israel, the Iranians can be assured of a massive Israeli response that would cause tens of millions of casualties and send Iran back to the era of Darius the Great. Plus the Israelis might drop a few cookies on Mecca and Medina for good measure, and the mullahs don't want to be even indirectly responsible for that.
So what's the point of this American guarantee? And, more importantly, how does it benefit the US?
