More on Abe Foxman

Mark Krikorian writes in the Cornerabout Abe Foxman's newly declared war on the religious right:

Steve Steinlight, former policy director at the American Jewish Committee and a Fellow at my center, wrote a piece for me last year with an excerpt that’s relevant here: “Reality is dawning on many American Jews that something is amiss, although it seems lost on some of the country’s most venerable Jewish organizations. There’s a sad, if comic irony associated with the fact that employees at organizations like ADL, the American Jewish Committee, and the Presidents’ Conference must pass through a gauntlet of concrete barriers, armed guards, metal detectors, and double bulletproof anterooms as they come to work each morning to protect them from radical Islamic terrorists, in order to spend their days studying and disseminating reports on the "threat" posed by Evangelical Christians. Meanwhile, the legislative affairs staffs of these organizations are directed to lobby against immigration reforms that could minimize the danger.”

Clearly, Abe didn't get that memo.

I love it!!

When the ADL speaks out against Islamofacists, Brian whines that it is the equivalent of a foreign agent for Israel and that Foxman is loyal to another nation.

What this actually shows is that the ADL's mission is significantly broader, and in fact is willing to take it to anti-semites, or those who want to use the 1st amendment as toilet paper. And that they will do so even if they support Israel. So now Brian says that the ADL is not focused on the real enemy, the Islamofacists.

The ADL, of course, takes it to both groups, if they do anything that may be antisemitic or harmful to the rights and freedoms that Jewish Americans enjoy. It's called CONSISTENCY.

Many people were concerned that the evangelical's recent support for Israel would cause Jewish groups like the ADL to back off on other issues like the separation of church and state. I was personally worried about this. And while I still think Foxman can be a blowhard, it's GREAT to see that the ADL is willing to take it to those who want to turn this country into a theocracy, even if they support Israel

What are you so in love of, ADL's thought crimes law failed in congress! The ADL treats the constitution as toilet paper just as everyone else has since Lincoln.

Hopefully the zionists and evangelicals will both self-destruct, leaving nothing but an unpleasant memory to all us normal folk trying to enjoy our individual freedoms without trying to impose them on anyone else.

The ADL has been among the most staunch defenders of the separation of church and state. That's not using the constitution as toilet paper, that's protecting our citizenry's rights.

The key word in the above comment is *has* - which is in the past.

As is shown by Foxman's willingness to criticize the Christian Right, the ADL is operating in the present and not content to rest on its laurel's.

As for a Jewish theocracy. The ADL has regularly criticized Jewish extremists and racists in Israel, so we again don't need to resort to hypotheticals.

There is a track record, and it is good.

I'd like to hear more about this. I thought Foxman has campaigned strenuously for both Jonathan Pollard and Marc Rich. Are there OTHER Jewish extremists that he has criticized? Has he issued any statements about Abramoff or Lapin?

Don't be confused. ADL does not run US Mideast policy. Doug Feith didn't get his marching orders from ADL.

It's AIPAC. The other Jewish organizations are irrelevant. Some good, some bad.

But only one counts in Washington. Only one gave us the Iraq war. AIPAC. Stay focused.

The Gorilla is AIPAC.
