The Gorilla Mystery and the FBI
Someone suggested that the potential FBI questioning of reporters and bloggers in relation to the Larry Franklin case could be the reason for the mysterious destruction of the Gorilla in the Room blog.
While this sounds somewhat plausable I don't think it is the reason. The FBI only wishes to question reporters and bloggers who may have received confidential information from Larry Franklin.
Somehow I don't think Larry Franklin was leaking secrets to GIR.
Then again, how did he know so much about the Franklin case? Hmmm...

Gorilla did not report anything that was not already in publications.
His insider expertise went into analysis and probing questions. He does not know anything special about the case.
The FBI has nothing to do with his disappearance.

Weisburd has not merely "dismantled" websites. He has harassed individuals engaged in perfectly legal online dissident, threatened their family members, harassed their employers, and harassed their web hosts. He regularly uses lies, disinformation and threats to accomplish these goals. Weisburd decides what is "threatening." He considers all effective dissent threatening.Many of Weisburd's "foes" are innocent Americans exercising their right to free speech. Making any kind of equivalence between these innocent Americans and Weisburd is absurd. In fact, Weisburd is the biggest menace to the Internet.
I would say GIR I had a level of confidence regarding the Franklin indictment that was much higher than was warrented from the public information availabe.
There was lots of talk about the matter dying out, but GIR I was confident that things would heat up, and heat up they did. I am sure he had connections with people who had some visability into the investigation.
He also picked up the MEK cleansing effort, something that I did not see reported elsewhere.
So, I would say that GIR I was well connected and had superior insight into the issues dealt with on this blog. I can only hope he will return.
