Why God Chose the Jews

No wonder the LA Times is losing subscribers left and right. This poorly written peice about the Jewish "Early Warning System" is an embarrasment and should never have been published.

If you just had lunch you may want to wait a bit before you read this.

Why God chose the Jews

THERE IS ONE good thing about anti-Semitism: It lets you know who the bad guys are. Right, left, black, white, freak or straight, the minute someone starts rattling on about the evil Jews, you know your train just pulled into Slimeball Station. [Ah, but didn't the Iranian President talk about Israel, not the Jews?]

All bigotry is wrong, of course, but there's something about this particular form of prejudice that is weirdly reliable as a sign of deeper wickedness. Perhaps it's because the Jews contributed so much to humanity's moral code that to hate them as a race is to despise the restraints of morality itself. [Since you equate Jews with Israel, is Israeli conduct an example of that "moral code."]

Whatever the reason, true, virulent anti-Semitism is such a good indicator of the presence of evil that I'm tempted to believe that when God made the Jews his chosen people, this is what he chose them for: to be a sort of Villainy Early Detection System for everyone else. [This is just stupid, and the rest goes downhill from here.]

Unfortunately, in his infinite love for his creation, I suspect the Big Guy may have overestimated our intelligence. Maybe he thought that after Hitler we'd just, you know, like, get it. Instead, we still see apparently intelligent people appeasing, making excuses for and even embracing the sorts of stinkers who ought to set off the Big Alarm.

That's why I think the system could use more bells and whistles — a loud honking noise perhaps, or even closed captioning for the morally impaired. Thus, when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Holocaust is a "myth" or that Israel "must be wiped off the map," you would hear a loud honk and words would appear in the air below his face: "Hello. I am an evil madman. Please stop negotiating with me now and proceed to cripple my nuclear capability by any means necessary."

The worst thing about the classically Jewish "jaded" or "bored" take on the history of persecution is that it is impossible to read a talentless hack yawning over pogroms in a hopeless stab at arch wit without getting the implication that this isn't such a big deal. Certainly the wealthy Jews who enjoy jobs they cannot seem to perform to save their lives (Andrew Klavan doesn't work in news but he is in a newspaper here; a stricter example would be Bobo, Broder or the truly moronic Kraphammer), especially in the news media, and who have never been actually persecuted or come close in their lives, do not seem to have any appreciation of the meaning of these things except as a conversational atomic bomb. People definitely over-used the Holocaust comparison thing after the vigorous example of the more pedantic, exagerration-prone Jews, and now that the central meme of the era trapped under the shadow of IX/XI is the Israelification of America, maybe we will have our own empty-headed idiots yabbering about how boring it is to be inevitably persecuted once again. And that is cute how they snuck in a recycled anti-Sandinista tactic against Osama Bin Laden Himself, Hugo Chavez, who killed ...0 Americans actually. But we must stop him, and by the way, like a wife-beater or a child-molester, he indulges one of the more loathesome evils, Jew-hatred.
Right now we are extremely suspicious of all accusations of
Jew-hatred,
Child-molestation or keeping child porn (it takes seconds to plant a lifetime of "evidence" on a hard drive once in possession)
and voicing an intent to threaten the pResident or his junta.

IIRC the bible sez that god chose them because they are the least of all peoples. yahweh must have been in need of some pretty lowdown screwups to do his dirty work on earth back then. not that anything has changed in the last 6000 or so years.

Let me see here...call someone a "nigger" and you may or may not be a decent fellow - many factors come into play here. Criticize the policies of the government of Israel and *DING DING*, you are certifiably "Evil". Ayup. Get them evil-doer's. Unleash hell Georgie.

Kavan intentionally confuses antisemtism with criticism of Israel. It is a tactic meant to distract and defuse attention from Israeli behavior, and it's been used by Zionist apologist ever since the founding of that inglorious little state. Finkelstein's latest book, Beyond Chtuzpah, does a great job of nailing it.

Nothing new here. (Unless it's the spectacle of an American Jew working in the entertainment industry complaining of "antisemitism".)

"anonymous" above (1/19/2006 03:51:42 PM) is the classic example of an antisemite trying to explain that promoting a dishonest, obsessive hatred of the very existence of israel while condoning antisemitic stereotypes about "jewish power" and basically promoting as much hatred and mistrust of the jewish people as possible isn't antisemitic

Fuck you and fuck your "new-age politically correct" hero norm finkelstein

Uh-oh! Somebody's touched a nerve!

But where in that 03:51:42 PM post do you find all that stuff about "obsessive hatred of the very existence of israel", and "antisemitic stereotypes about 'jewish power'"? I've looked and looked and just don't see it.

But we got to hand it to you--anyone who could read that ridiculous LA Times op-ed and STILL try the "anti-semitism" gambit truly deserves the Chutzpah of the Week award.

Tell us, is this special skill you've got sniffing out "anti-semitism" something you're born with, or can anyone get it with enough practice? It sounds like it'd be fun to have--and very useful if you're trying to steal somebody else's country. :)

That truely is an absurd article.

My guess is that the author is personally obnoxious and people don't like him and he uses jewishness as the reason for his extreme unpopularity.

The source of all evil in the world is the superstitious belief that G-d chose a particular people.

I personally don't think Israel should exist but would welcome anyone who could explain to me why it should exist and be allowed nuclear weapons and delivery systems, and why its operatives in the US are driving us into wars that benefit only Israel.

Also why Israel was placed in the heart of Palestine among Arabs who pretty much didn't have anything to do with "THE Holocaust" ('cause there sure weren't any other holocausts in the 20th century ;-) rather than Germany.

Please explain because I have kids who are draft age and don't want them to die for a cause (Israel) that I can't fathom.

Israel wasn't allowed nuclear weapons. It quietly acquired the means to have nuclear weapons.

Now that it has them, and has had them for many many years, all that time not actually threatening anyone with them, no body is stupid enough to try to take them away.

Your inability to fathom anything will lead your children to fight for whatever cause they believe is right. They won't come to you for advice.

I can fathom, in fact I can prove, that a group of neo-conservatives with longstanding ties to Israel lied us into waging war against Iraq.

I can fathom, in fact I can prove, that these same people are now lying us into wars with Iran and Syria.

I can fathom that the US could demand that Israel give up her nuclear weapons at gunpoint, our gunpoint, and Israel would -- we could just threaten to wipe her off the map as we are threatening to do to Iran.

Instead, our bribed, threatened and corrupted congresspeople value another country over ours, and we will all pay in blood.

By the way, I taught my children to think critically, and you haven't answered my question, which they would have asked as well -- why should Israel exist at all much less in the heart of the oil fields amongst people who had nothing to do with "THE Holocaust"?

Nicely put, but there's no need to take "Ibrahamav" seriously. He seems to be all over the Internet, distracting and dissembling on behalf of his "homeland".

Although it's not REALLY his homeland--because he wouldn't dream of actually moving to "that shitty little country" He's an American citizen believe it or not. But his heart is somewhere else.

Sorry, but you can't prove it. You yourself stated that you couldn't fathom, but now you say you could. Which was a lie?

The US will never, and has no reason to, demand that Israel give up its nuclear weapons.

Your children know why Israel exists. They are just humoring you by feigning ignorance.

And based on your other posts, nobody really cares what you believe.

We're still waiting for an answer to his question, Ibrahamav. And when you're done with that, would you also tell us why the U.S. should be forced to pay the price for that excrescence?

Why should Israel exist? The same reason any other country exists. Why in the middle of oil fields? That's a question?

Whether or not the arabs in the area had anything to do with the holocaust is a moot point. A state was promised by the owners of the land well before the holocaust. And the Mufti of Jerusalem certainly aided Hitler during the Holocaust.

The US has not been required to do anything that its citizens have not asked it to do. By overwhelming consent, the US has done its citizens' bidding by supporting Israel.

"the US has done its citizens' bidding by supporting Israel."

I think Ibrahimav means the bidding of 1.5% of the citizens. It's the first true thing I've seen him post.

"Why should Israel exist? The same reason any other country exists."
This just won't do. Not unless you can mention another country which was founded in the 20th century by European colonists intent on expelling the native population in order to create a "pure state"?

Remember you still owe us an answer on this one. People are dieing because of that "sh**** little country".

Only white supremists, neo-nazis, nutcases and the Iranians (same thing?) believe that 95% of congress support Israel because of money. Which of them are you?

People are dying because they are stupid. No one but Israelis are dying for Israel.

By the way, you are owed nothing.
